Does Caffeine Shampoo Stop Hair Loss?

Caffeine Shampoo for hair loss has been on the market for a number of years and now has a lot of followers who swear by it. I was extremely sceptical that any hair loss shampoo could work. I just did not believe that a topical hair loss medication could work.

I was on Propecia for a number of years and it worked very well to stop hair loss and daily male hair shedding. However, I stopped due to longer term concerns of how it could affect my health. My hair started shedding about a month after this and it continued for of a year. I was losing about 100 hairs a day and more whenever I washed my hair. Of course I was really concerned. I needed something to stop my hair loss, and was already using minoxidil and hairmax lasercomb, which are great for hair growth stimulation. But they are hair grow stimulators and do not block scalp DHT like Propecia does. I really needed a safe propecia alternative that I could apply topically. I also needed to slow down or slow a receding hairline!

I stumbled across an ad for Alpecin shampoo, but had been told by my trichologist that DHT blocker shampoos don't work, so I wasn't keen. Also the black bottle and even the name 'Alpecin' freaked me out. I mean Alopecia was what I was trying to avoid.

I tried Alpecin shampoo maybe twice a week, while I was on holiday but it didn't seem to do much for the hair shedding. Then I started using it each day or every second day, along with the Alpecin After Shampoo Liquid and Bang...my hair shedding stopped after 3 days! % months later and my shedding is still 90-95% less than it was before I was using this DHT blocking shampoo. I can actually run my hands through my hair or apply hair gel and no hairs are shed. If I comb my hair and wash it I may just lose a hair or two or maybe three.

But Does Alpecin Caffeine Shampoo Regrow Hair?

I had not noticed that Alpecin Shampoo and Alpecin After Shampoo liquid regrow hair on their own. I would probably have said no, but that they give the natural hair growth cycles time to catch-up without that constant hair shedding. I would also confirm that they do strenghten and speed up the regrowth of the fine hairs produced. I would have said these thinks up to the 6 month mark, but after 6 months I am noticing small hairs sprouting where they had fallen out and not regrown with just minoxidil 5% and minoxidil 15% with azelaic acid alone. It's early days, but I am now seeing a bit of fine regrowth!

Can Caffeine Shampoo be used with Minoxidil?

Yes it can. But I'd say try to use the caffeine shampoo and caffeine liquid first, and then apply the minoxidil some hours later. The reason is caffeine is a mild vasoconstrictor (makes blood vessels tighten), and minoxidil is a very powerful vasodilator (makes blood vessels walls relax to increase blood supply to the hair follicles). So using them at exactly the same time is counter-productive.

How Does Alpecin Shampoo work?

Initial studies in a lab showed that caffeine could stop the hair growth suppressing effects of testosterone, but this was in an isolated lab situation.

Then studies from the university clinic in Jena, Germany, proved that liquid caffeine could actually penetrate the hair roots, and thus protect the hair from strong testosterone effects and thus slow hair loss. and hair shedding.
Sufficient caffeine can be absorbed into the hair follicles after 2 minutes, but for maximum hair root and scalp absorbtion I leave it on for 30 minutes. I suggest testing for a shorter period to test tolerance at first, if your skin is sensitive.

How to Use Alpecin Shampoo

Alpecin C1 shampoo can be used everday or every other day. The strength DHT suppressing application last about 24 hours, so I wouldn't wait longer than that. Crucially, I would insist the Alpecin after shampoo liquid (Alpecin ASL) is used afterwards, twice a day for a nice boost.

I have not experienced any side effects, but it has a nice zing to it, which makes you scalp feel very tingly! you will notice immediately afterwards that your scalp itch has reduced or dissapeared completely. This is the reduction of scalp DHT taking effect!
